Sundak Beach, The origin of this beach name is Wedibedah Beach

The origin of this beach name is Wedibedah Beach. This name is taken from the Java language. Wedi means sand, while surgery means splitting, so the meaning of wedibedah is sand splitting. This beach is named as it is because there are natural phenomenon that is quite rare in other beaches. When the rainy season, the east coast is inundated by the flow of water from the mainland so as to split (surgical) sand, then if the dry season comes, the surgery is lost. With such an event the beach is called Wedibedah .

The Wedibedah name lasts for tens of years. Then in about 1076, the name Wedibedah turned into Sundak. This Sundak name stands for asu (dog) and sea urchin. It is said that in about a year there was an interesting event. One afternoon, there were dogs running around the beach. Then the dog went into the coral cave. Inside the cave he meets a sea urchin. Because it was so hungry, the dog ate half the body of the sea urchin, while the half he let it just like that.then the dog exited the cave with pride because his stomach is filled. After a while the owner of the dog knows the behavior of his pet. He sees there are some body of sea urchin. Then he went inside the cave to check out the other body part of the sea urchin and the owner found it. From the incident then the name of the beach Wedibedah turned into Sundak Beach.

From the incident also, it brings a blessing for local residents. Initially the owner of the dog was surprised because his dog came out cave with wet conditions.Then the owner assumes in the cave there are puddles or wells. Then the owner and the residents studied the cave. Apparently, in the cave there is a spring.So from that source residents do not bother anymore to look for fresh water.
